The Corning Incorporated Retirement Group is open to all retired hourly and salaried employees of Corning Incorporated and their spouses. The CIRG holds monthly coffee gatherings with guest speakers in the Riverfront Café at the Corporate
Headquarters complex, arranges at least two group trips per year and holds at least two major functions each year - most notably, a summer picnic and a December Christmas Party. All of these functions are open to CIRG members and their guests.
CIRG Policy on Event Cancellations
As a matter of policy, in the event weather forces Corning-Painted Post schools to close OR DELAY the start of the school day, the CIRG program will be cancelled.
What Constitutes a Corning Incorporated Retiree?
We get this question quite often from folks who want to know if they can attend our Corning Incorporated Retirees Group meetings and participate in our events. We also get this question from folks who visit our web site or read our newsletter. For a definitive answer, we went to the corporation for the answer.
Any person who has retired from Corning Incorporated is a Corning Incorporated retiree. This includes ALL employees, union or non-union, salaried or hourly.
Persons who left the company and worked for another company (e.g. Signetics, World Kitchen) and retired from those companies, while they may receive pension funds from Corning Incorporated, are not Corning Incorporated retirees.
Persons who have accepted early retirement packages that offer a specific term of "Leave with pay," are not officially retirees until that "on leave with pay" term has ended and they begin receiving retiree payments.
The designation "retiree" pertains only to the employee and not to the employee's spouse.
All this said, all activities of the Corning Incorporated Retirees Group are announced on this web site and in our newsletter and are open to all former Corning Incorporated (or Corning Glass Works) employees and their spouses and friends. All are welcome to attend our monthly coffee sessions, participate in our group trips, and join in our annual picnic, Christmas party and other community service activities. All these events are announced on this web site and in our newsletter.
HELLO-O-O-O Out There! How Are You? What're You Doing?
This web site is not just for retirees in the Chemung Valley and the Twin Tiers. It's for all Corning Incorporated retirees from all plants. We have retiree gatherings and events in our many plant towns or in towns where employees (a.k.a. Snowbirds) gather.
We are happy to include such items in this web site. Just tell us about it and we will "plug" it… or maybe even come join in the fun.
