Retirees "Meet" Victor
About 40 retirees and guests at the March coffee program in the Riverfront Café were introduced to the newest Corning product spokesperson…one that doesn’t speak at all. His name is Victor, and he is the rain forest gorilla used to emphasize the “tough yet beautiful” feature of Corning® Gorilla Glass®.
Our speaker, Lisa A. Burns, manager, Corporate Communications, provided a glimpse of the enthusiasm generated in the company’s exhibit at the recent Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Corning Gorilla Glass, made in Harrodsburg, Ky, and Asia, is super-tough thin flat glass specifically designed to help protect display screens of cell phones, laptops, tablets, TVs … you name it
As Corning’s non-verbal spokesperson, Victor is featured in videos, print ads and posters and plays a key role in changing the way people think about glass. Whether cooking in the kitchen or surfing channels in the den, Victor shows the value of Corning Gorilla Glass in the electronic devices he uses. As a not-too-neat cook in the kitchen and a laid-back TV viewer channel surfing in the den, Victor does things that clearly show the durability of the devices protected by Corning Gorilla Glass.
Separately, Corning recently launched a 5 1/2-minute video called “A Day Made of Glass,” that has since “gone viral” on the internet via You Tube and through the ubiquitous “you gotta see this” forwarded e-mails going around the country. The futuristic spot presents one “wow” moment after another as it follows a family through the course of a busy day…from wake-up to “night-nightl.” No Victor in this…just real people doing things most of us would love – even hope -- to experience.

and click on “A Day Made of Glass.” Once you’ve seen it, you will better appreciate the stir being created in the world of consumer electronics by Corning Gorilla Glass. It’s easy to understand how Burns can report with pride the excitement this newest Corning innovation is generating and the impact it promises for the Company. Clearly the folks in her audience – stockholders, after all – were equally excited.
Burns was introduced to the retirees by David Kubissa, manager of Employee Communications, our CIRG liaison with the Company. Burns, a Horseheads native, earned her business and MBA degrees from St. Bonaventure University and has been with Corning for 15 years.
Our April 13 CIRG Coffee program will be “Financial Planning & Investing for Retirees,” with Michael Quattrini of Corning Federal Credit Union. Also, Coleen Fabrizi will report plans for the second GlassFest program Memorial Day Weekend in Corning’s Gaffer District.
